2013 Corporate Responsibility
In both the U.S. and the U.K., the workplace serves as the single most important channel through which individuals have access to financial protection benefits. The investment employers make in offering benefits that help employees financially weather illness, injury or disability can pay dividends—from helping employees return to work to alleviating pressure on already limited governmental programs.
As more employers offer disability, life and voluntary benefits to employees, research shows governments spend less on public assistance programs funded by taxpayers. As a result, an increasing number of Americans and Britons will be better equipped to cope financially should they miss work due to illness or injury.
We believe it's our responsibility to encourage engagement and dialogue between private companies, the public sector, and key nongovernmental organizations on this critical public policy issue.
