2013 Corporate Responsibility
Providing employees who are facing short- or longterm disabilities with the accommodations they need to fully contribute their skills and expertise is one more way we strive to create a welcoming, inclusive work environment.
From work schedules to physical office adaptations, we provide tools and resources to support all employees, including:
Many people with disabilities can benefit from having an assistance dog to help them with basic needs, including opening and closing doors, pulling wheelchairs, summoning help and providing companionship. Because so few trained assistance dogs are available in the U.S., only 1 percent of Americans who need a dog currently have one.
Through a partnership with Goodwill Industries, employees at our Chattanooga location have the opportunity to help address this need by serving as volunteers for the Goodwill Assistance Dog Academy, a program created to train and provide assistance dogs free of charge to Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia children and adults with physical disabilities.
One day each week, the Academy brings assistance dogs in training to the Unum campus where our employee volunteers help the dogs gain the real-world experience they need to become reliable canine guides and companions.
