Joseph R. Foley
Senior Vice President, Corporate Marketing and Public Relations, Unum Group
Joe Foley is senior vice president, Corporate Marketing and Public Relations of Unum Group. In this capacity, he is responsible for all corporate marketing, marketing strategy, consumer insights, communications, and community relations. Additionally, he oversees the company’s reinsurance operations in Europe and the United States.
Foley joined UNUM, a predecessor company, in 1978 and held a variety of sales and sales management positions until 1995. Since then he has served as head of UNUM’s life and health business and was executive vice president of operations for UNUM America. After the creation of Unum, Foley had responsibility for market and product development. He served as chief marketing officer of the company beginning in 2005 and assumed his current position in 2013.
In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Foley serves as vice-chair of the Mitchell Institute and the Alfond Scholarship Fund. He is the former chair for the Maine Compact for Higher Education, Council for Disability Awareness and a past director of Mercy Hospital, the Greater Portland United Way, and the Cancer Community Center.
Foley received his bachelor’s in political science from the College of the Holy Cross in 1977.
